BoiledEggTimer.com is built to work without knowing who you are. There are no accounts and no trackers of our own. This page lists everything that touches your data — ours and other companies’ — where it lives, and how long. It’s a short list, and it’s written to be read.
Who we are
This site is operated by Adam, an independent publisher based in the Philippines. As the party that decides how and why data on this site is processed, we are the data controller for the purposes of the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173) and, for visitors in Europe, the GDPR.
What stays on your device and never reaches us
Your timer preferences. The timer remembers your egg size, starting temperature, egg type and elevation in your browser’s local storage, so you don’t re-enter them every visit. This is stored only on your device, is never transmitted to us, and isn’t linked to any identifier. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it. Your chosen doneness and cooking method are deliberately not saved — those change every time you cook.
Offline files. The site caches its own pages and scripts on your device so the timer keeps working with a poor connection. That’s a browser cache of our public files, not a record of you.
What our own server receives
The egg counter. When a timer finishes, your browser sends an anonymous signal — that some eggs were cooked, and how many — which increments one site-wide total. To stop that endpoint being abused, we hold a salted, truncated hash derived from your IP address for about 20 seconds, after which it expires. The hash cannot be reversed into your IP address, we keep no per-person records, and the running total contains no personal information of any kind.
The contact form. If you write to us through the contact page, your message and anything you include in it — such as your email address — is delivered to us by email and used solely to reply to you. It is not stored in the website’s database, we don’t add you to any mailing list, and we don’t share it with anyone. We keep correspondence only as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry.
Ordinary server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard short-term server logs — IP address, pages requested, browser type, timestamps — for security and troubleshooting, as effectively every website’s host does. The host also runs automated security systems that inspect traffic to block attacks. These logs rotate on the host’s normal schedule and we don’t use them to identify visitors.
Content delivery. Site files may be served through a content delivery network so pages load faster near you. A CDN necessarily sees the same technical request data any web server sees, and processes it in order to deliver the page.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic — which pages are read, roughly which countries visitors come from, and what kinds of device they use. This helps us decide what to write next.
Google Analytics sets cookies and processes data as described in Google’s privacy policy. We look at trends and totals; we don’t attempt to identify individual visitors, and we haven’t enabled Google’s advertising or remarketing features within Analytics.
You can decline analytics cookies in the consent banner, use Google’s browser opt-out add-on, or block cookies in your browser settings.
Advertising
This site is funded by advertising, served by Google AdSense. Ads are what keep the timer free and unencumbered.
Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads and to measure them. Depending on your settings, those ads may be personalised based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies is described in Google’s policy on how it uses information from sites that use its services.
Your choices. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ad Settings, and manage third-party advertising cookies at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent banner that lets you accept or decline advertising and analytics cookies before any are set, and you can change that choice at any time through the banner’s settings link.
Where advertising doesn’t go. We keep ads off the timer itself above the fold. A kitchen tool that’s slow or cluttered isn’t worth bookmarking, and bookmarking is the whole point.
Affiliate links
Some pages contain affiliate links to products, disclosed where they appear. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The link itself sends the retailer no personal information from us; once you arrive on their site, their own privacy policy applies.
What we never do
We don’t sell or rent personal data. We don’t run trackers of our own, fingerprint devices, require accounts, or detect your location — the altitude selector in the timer is a list you choose from, and your choice is saved only on your device. The site is not directed at children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
Your rights
Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act, and under the GDPR and similar laws such as the CCPA if you’re outside the Philippines, you may have the right to access personal data held about you, correct it, ask for it to be deleted, object to certain processing, or complain to a regulator.
Our honest position: unless you have written to us, we hold nothing about you to access or delete. If you have contacted us, or you want to ask what we hold, send a request through our contact page and we’ll deal with it promptly. Please give us enough detail to find your correspondence — the email address you wrote from, and roughly when.
You can also clear on-device data yourself at any time through your browser, and change your cookie choices through the consent banner. Visitors in the Philippines may raise concerns with the National Privacy Commission; visitors in Europe may complain to their local data protection authority.
International transfers
This site is operated from the Philippines and uses service providers — including Google and our host — which may process data on servers in other countries, including the United States. Those providers operate under their own safeguards for international data transfers.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, we’ll update this page and revise the effective date above before the change takes effect. Material changes will be noted plainly at the top of the page for a reasonable period.
