About BoiledEggTimer.com
BoiledEggTimer.com exists for one reason: to help you cook a perfect boiled egg every single time, without overthinking it. No 2,000-word recipe blog post wrapped around a single number. No pop-ups. No login. Just a fast, accurate timer that knows the difference between a 6-minute soft boiled and a 7-minute jammy ramen egg — and gets out of your way while you cook.
Why This Site Exists
Boiling an egg is one of the simplest things you can cook. It’s also one of the easiest to get wrong. The window between a runny yolk and an overcooked one is about 90 seconds. The difference between a peelable hard boiled egg and a frustrating one comes down to ice-bath timing. Small details matter — and most kitchen apps and recipe sites don’t take that seriously.
We built BoiledEggTimer.com because we wanted a tool we’d actually use ourselves: a free, browser-based timer that loads instantly on any phone, calibrated to the times that actually work, with the option to start from cold water or boiling water depending on how you cook. No app to install. No account required. No data collection beyond what we need to keep the site running.
How We Calibrate Our Times
Every cooking time on this site has been tested, not copy-pasted. Our preset times for soft boiled (4–6 min), half boiled (5 min), medium / jammy (7 min), and hard boiled (10 min) are based on:
- Standard culinary references from established food science sources, including how egg proteins set at different temperatures (whites firm at 145°F / 63°C, yolks at 150°F / 65°C, fully set at 170°F / 77°C).
- Real kitchen testing with consistent egg sizes (large), starting water states (rolling boil), and post-cook ice baths — the variables that make timing repeatable.
- Cross-checking against multiple recipe traditions — Western soft boiled, Japanese ajitsuke tamago (ramen eggs), Singaporean / Malaysian kopitiam-style half boiled, and classic American hard boiled — to make sure our times serve every style accurately.
- User feedback from cooks who’ve used the timer in real kitchens, real altitudes, and real conditions.
We update the site when we learn something new. If you’ve tested our times and found they don’t match your kitchen, we want to hear about it.
What’s on the Site
- Boiled Egg Timer — the main timer with all presets from 3 to 12 minutes plus custom timer input.
- Hard Boiled Egg Timer — focused 9–12 min presets with peeling tips and storage guidance.
- Soft Boiled Egg Timer — focused 3–7 min presets with ramen-egg timing and serving ideas.
- Half Boiled Egg Timer — Singaporean and Malaysian kopitiam-style with the traditional off-heat method.
- Perfect Boiled Egg Timer — chef-precision timing across every doneness level.
Every page includes a time chart for that style, the science behind why those times work, and FAQs that answer the questions cooks actually ask. We use the same timer plugin across the site, so the experience is consistent — only the presets and content change to match the page intent.
What This Site Is Not
- Not a recipe blog. We don’t pad pages with childhood stories or affiliate links. The timer and the times come first; the supporting content exists to answer real questions.
- Not medical or nutritional advice. If you’re managing a health condition that affects what you eat, talk to a doctor or registered dietitian — we can tell you how to cook an egg, not whether you should.
- Not a tracking site. We don’t require an account, we don’t email you, and we collect only the minimal analytics needed to understand which pages help people. See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
