Why a whole website about boiling eggs
Because the internet’s egg times disagree with each other, and they disagree for a reason nobody states: hidden assumptions. One chart assumes room-temperature eggs. Another counts from cold water. A third skips the ice bath, so its times quietly include the extra cooking that happens after the pot. None of them tell you which assumptions they made — so you follow the instructions exactly and still get the wrong egg.
Our fix is boring and effective: state the reference, adjust for everything that matters, and do the math for you. Every time on this site starts from the same reference egg — large, straight from the fridge, lowered into already-boiling water at sea level — and the timer adjusts from there for your egg size, your starting temperature, your method, and even your altitude, which changes more than most people think.
What the timer actually does
It’s a calculator wearing a timer costume. You tell it what egg you have and what yolk you want; it computes the time, keeps your screen awake while it counts, shows you the yolk setting in real time, and rolls straight into an ice-bath timer when the eggs come out — because the ice bath is part of the cooking, not an optional garnish.
Honesty policy
Where a time is well-established we say it plainly. Where a combination is unusual — quail eggs in an air fryer at altitude, say — the timer tells you it’s a starting point and suggests how to adjust. We’d rather admit a margin of error than fake precision. Stoves vary, eggs vary; a site that pretends otherwise is guessing at you confidently.
How the site pays for itself
Ads on the informational pages, and occasionally affiliate links to kitchen gear we’d actually recommend — clearly disclosed where they appear. The timer itself stays free and unencumbered. We don’t sell anything of our own and don’t plan to.
